THE management team of a Whitehaven bar has confirmed that the directors of the company which previously ran the venue are no longer involved.
The Yellow Earl Ltd, which had been based on Lowther Street since December 2016, went into liquidation last month - owing nearly £224,000.
The Yellow Earl remains open and is being run under new management, who have now confirmed that the directors of the Yellow Earl Ltd – listed on Companies House as Danny Maudling and Liz Cannon – are no longer involved.
A statement from the management team at The Yellow Earl said: "We can confirm that we are fully operational and open as usual, with all gigs and private events going ahead as planned.
"We can also confirm that directors of The Yellow Earl Limited are no longer involved in The Yellow Earl pub, and we can confirm Leah Maudling has owned 66 Lowther Street (The Yellow Earl property) since 2018 and continues to do so.
“Leah Maudling has engaged a new management team which is headed up by Lucy Graham, we have retained all the jobs and continue to welcome all our supportive customers."
The Yellow Earl Ltd appointed a voluntary liquidator last month. A total of £223,932 is owed to creditors, with £155,094 outstanding to HMRC in VAT, corporation tax, and payroll.
The company also owes £44,865 in a government Bounce Back loan, which enabled smaller businesses to access finance during the coronavirus pandemic. Copeland Borough Council is owed £9,000.
A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: “Cumberland Council is unable to comment on specific business rates accounts.
“The council recovers outstanding business rates in accordance with the Local Government Finance Act 1988.”
Records on Companies House show Danny Maudling and Liz Cannon are now directors of Alive Entertainment Group Ltd, based at The Bus Station on Bransty Row in Whitehaven.
They are also listed as directors for TYE Catering Ltd, which changed its office address from Lowther Street in Whitehaven to The Bus Station, last month.
