The RSPCA in West Cumbria has put out a warning to dog owners now we are experiencing hot weather.
Whilst most of us know it is not right to leave dogs in a hot car, people are also being warned about keeping their dogs safe whilst out for a walk in the heat.
A spokesperson from the RSPCA said: "We all know dogs die in hot cars, but dogs also die on hot walks. It's not unusual for dogs to need vet care for heat-related illnesses after exercise.
"In fact, it affects 10 times more dogs than those overheating in cars. Please take care when exercising your dogs in this weather.
"Never leave your dog alone in a car on a warm day. If you see a dog in distress in a hot car, dial 999."
