THE Whitehaven AFC Senior Ladies' Team has secured promotion.
The ladies finished second in the North West Lancashire Football Association League Division 1, securing promotion on their first attempt.
This week a presentation night was held to congratulate the ladies on their performance over the past season.
Ashleigh Mcallister received the Golden Boot award and also Player of the Year; Sophie May was awarded Players' Player; the Coach's Player was Maddi Hawthorne; the Team Player was Erin Marley; Most Improved was Charli Gibbons; the Clubman award was given to Niamh Morgan and Megan Batey; and the Young Player award was given to Kaela Reay.
Coach Neil Hetherington gave credit to all the players and the coaches (past and present) who have 'worked tirelessly' over the last 12 years to ensure that the club has a full pathway for age 5 girls to adults.
Mr Hetherington said: "It's great to see players who have been at the club from such an early age competing so brilliantly in the League.
"The future is bright with so many players coming through our youth system in the Cumberland FA leagues.
"We would like to pay our thanks to Nuclear Waste Services, Express Plumbing Supplies (EPS) HCS Water Treatment, Design Grid, and all the player sponsors who without their support this would not be possible.
"The team finished the Lancashire League with 12 wins, one draw, and one loss, scoring a chart-topping 106 goals in the campaign."
Awards on the night were presented by Joe Birkett Building and Mick from Express Plumbing Supplies.
A spokesperson added on the club's social media page: "Open sessions will be held in July and we are looking to gather interest ahead of then.
"If you are 16 years and above please get in touch with our first team manager Neil Hetherington.
"The squad is built on being friendly and inclusive with great support behind the team to help players enjoy their football whilst developing as players."
