A WHITEHAVEN man rubbed shoulders with royalty after being invited to a prestigious garden party.
Jordan Mattinson, who has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity, was a guest at Buckingham Palace at an event to mark the King’s Coronation, earlier this month.
The 30-year-old found himself just feet away from the Princess of Wales, who was in attendance along with her husband, the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal.
Jordan has raised over £41,000 for The Great North Air Ambulance Service over the last few years, with clothing collections held at Whitehaven RUFC and Hensingham ARLFC.
During the pandemic, he also secured £11,000 worth of food to feed struggling families in Copeland over Christmas after being inspired by footballer Marcus Rashford's campaign for free school meal vouchers.
Jordan, who attended with his partner, Paige Ormond, said: “It was brilliant just to be there and walk about in the Buckingham Palace garden and hear other people’s stories about why they were there.
“We saw William and Kate, Princess Anne, the Duke of Edinburgh and a few more where walking around between the crowds.
“I definitely think there are more deserving people from Whitehaven. We just like doing stuff to help out where we can and if it makes a bit of a difference then we’re over the moon with that.”
Jordan and Paige mingled with around 8,000 guests at the palace, with a military band playing background music. Guests enjoyed cups of tea, sandwiches and slices of cake, while taking a stroll around the gardens.
It was their second visit to Buckingham Palace in less than a year after being chosen to attend the Platinum Party at the Palace in June last year to celebrate the Queen's 70-year reign.
