A NATURE presenter has been seen filming on Whitehaven Harbour.
Chris Packham, best known for nature series including CBBC’s The Really Wild Show and Springwatch on the BBC, was spotted with a film crew in front of the discoloured harbour water this morning.
Rust-coloured water began pouring into the harbour from a culvert in Queen’s Dock at the end of last year and investigations are being carried out to find the cause.
The TV star, who is the brother of British fashion designer, Jenny Packham, is likely to have an interest in the issue due to his work on nature conservation.
Drones are also expected to be capturing footage while filming takes place.
Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners say they are “reasonably confident” that the polluted water is connected to historic mining in the area.
Ongoing technical surveys of groundwater conditions are being carried out in the land above a railway tunnel which takes the Cumbrian Coast line under the town.
