A COMMEMORATIVE cross has been installed where an historic town centre church once stood.
Copeland Council has installed the new cross in Trinity Gardens, Whitehaven.
It replaces the former cross and marks where the Holy Trinity Church, built in 1715, once stood.
The church was demolished in 1949. Its original name was King George’s Chapel, built on land donated by the Lowthers.
A spokesperson from Copeland Borough Council said: “We hope everyone enjoys the new instalment which will be in place for years to come.”
Fencing is in place while the council extends its memorial wall.
The extension will provide space for 60 new, locally sourced, sandstone memorial plaques which can be purchased to commemorate lost loved ones.
