Youngsters from an amateur boxing club are going the extra mile to raise funds for their club.
Attendees of the Egremont Amateur Boxing Club are taking on a challenge that has seen them run a mile every day in March, which they will continue throughout the remainder of the month.
One such attendee, Heidi Huck, who is in the five to seven year olds’ class, will be joined by fellow classmate Jack Dickinson, who is walking the equivalent of Workington to Egremont during half terms (13 miles).
He will be joining Heidi to complete his last mile on March 31.
The money raised via sponsors will go to the club, which opened in October last year and has been growing ever since.
Heidi joined the club shortly after it opened and has been a regular attendee.
Her parents, Callum and Laura, said: “The boxing club has become a massive part in Heidi’s life these last few months, and she absolutely loves spending time there.
“With help from all the fantastic coaches (Alan Toole, Mally Caton, Dick Newton and Ryan Kyles) she has become more confident as a person and is absolutely invested in getting fit and practising her boxing at every opportunity.”
Jack joined at a similar time and has also become a regular in classes.
A club spokesperson said his boxing skills are progressing every week and he’s a great asset to the club.
They added: “As a club, we are blown away that Heidi and Jack are undertaking these challenges.
“The club had to relocate at the beginning of the year due to structural issues in Egremont Market Hall and because of this, we need to raise funds for more equipment and to kit out our new location.
“We are all planning to join both of them on their final mile and running from Thornhill to Egremont Conservative Club, where Egremont A.B.C is now located, with as many members, parents and friends joining us.”
