AN intoxicated man was “out of control” when he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in a town centre.

Police were on patrol at 3.20am on February 4  when they attended an incident on Duke Street in Whitehaven.

Peter Kelly, prosecuting, told Workington Magistrates’ Court that someone alleged they had been assaulted.

Officers spoke to a friend of Jason Davidson, 29, who “appeared to be upset”.

Davidson tried to push past officers a number of times and was described as being “aggressive” in manner. He was under the influence of alcohol and used profanities towards one of the officers.

He was arrested and taken to custody. Mr Kelly said the defendant had to be taken to the floor.

Davidson, of Cragg Road, Cleator Moor, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

The defendant, who had no legal representation, said: “I was out of control and drunk. I know I can’t take anything back. I wish I could.

“I’m just an idiot when I’m drunk. I’m coming off the alcohol. I’m going through drugs and alcohol counselling.”

Davidson was fined £40 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £16 surcharge.
