A MAN who had a knife in his possession while on bail for another offence, has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Kevin Sinton, 24, pleaded guilty to possessing a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place when he appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court.
He was found in possession of a locking knife on George Street in Whitehaven on December 1.
The defendant had pleaded not guilty to a charge of using threatening, abusive, insulting words, or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm, or distress at a court hearing on October 10 but was found guilty on December 12.
This offence took place on September 20 in Whitehaven.
Sinton, of Queen Street, Whitehaven, was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.
Magistrates deemed the offences to be so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified, due to the defendant having a blade on his person, being under the influence, and because they were committed while he was on bail for a public order offence.
He was given a curfew, to run daily from 7pm to 7am for four weeks and must complete 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He ordered to pay £500 costs.
