COPELAND MP Trudy Harrison has been quizzed by pupils from St James School in Whitehaven.

Mrs Harrison visited St James’ Infant and Nursery School, where she held an assembly for Year 1 and 2 pupils to tell them all about her role as a Member of Parliament and an Environment Minister.

Mrs Harrison also answered questions from the pupils, ranging from animal welfare and pollution to electric vehicles.

Mrs Harrison said: “I very much enjoyed visiting St James’ and telling the pupils more about what it is like to work as an MP and in Government.

“I was impressed by the range and depth of questions the children had, particularly around protecting the environment. It’s clear St James’ is full of wildlife warriors.

“I have invited the children to write to me to share their ideas of how we can better protect the environment, and I look forward to receiving their letters.”

Headteacher Alex Moore said: “Our children enjoyed finding out about Mrs Harrison’s varied role and how she raises awareness of issues in our local constituency.

“Mrs Harrison connected with our children and discussed current threats to wildlife and how they can play their part in acting locally to address these pressing issues.

“Our Year 2 children are looking forward to writing to Mrs Harrison to campaign for animals under threat, such as hedgehogs and red squirrels.”
