BUSINESSES can now have more of their waste recycled, thanks to Copeland Borough Council.
The council has expanded its trade waste service to include glass, cans and plastic - these will be collected separately and sent for recycling. The new collection stream is in addition to the existing collections of general waste and paper and card for recycling.
Portfolio Holder for Recycling and Waste, Councillor Andy Pratt, said: "This is a welcomed expansion of our already successful service.
"Many of our trade customers, especially in the tourism and hospitality sectors, are keen to recycle as much as possible, as it's something their guests look for when choosing a place to visit.
“Previously, commercial customers had to put their glass, cans and plastic in with their general waste, even if they really wanted to see it recycled. Now they can send it back into a sustainable recycling loop."
The change follows the streamlining of the council's residential recycling collections, which now use wheeled bins.
Coun Pratt added: "We want to help residents, businesses and visitors adopt sustainability wherever we can."
The council's commercial waste service aims to meet the needs of individual businesses, and can collect daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. To find out more about the service, visit https://www.copeland.gov.uk/trade-waste-collections.
