ENGLAND'S cricket captain is set to donate his match fees from the upcoming Test series to the Pakistan Floods Appeal. 

The all-rounder from Cockermouth, Ben Stokes, will donate to help provide relief after floods devasted the country, leaving at least 1,600 people killed and over 12,000 injured. 

The 31-year-old made the announcement on Twitter on November 28, with hopes the donation can go towards "rebuilding areas of Pakistan" most affected. 

The news follows after England’s first training session before the first Test starting on Thursday at Pakistan's Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. 

His match fees are said to be around £45,000. 

In the post to his Twitter account Stokes, who moved from New Zealand to Cumbria aged 12, said: "It is great to be in Pakistan for the first time for this historic series. 

"To be back here after 17 years as a Test side is very exciting. 

"There is a sense of responsibility amongst the playing and support group and to be here is special.

"The floods that devastated Pakistan earlier this year was very sad to see and has had a significant impact on the country and people.

"The game has given me a lot in my life and I feel it's only right to give something back that goes far beyond cricket.

"Hopefully this donation can go towards the rebuilding of areas of Pakistan most affected by the flooding," he said.
