A man has appeared in court charged with historic sex offences.
John Hales, 64, of Lakeland Avenue, Whitehaven, did not enter pleas to three charges of rape when he appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Hales faces charges of raping a female under 16 years old, between August 2002 and August 2003, and raping a female aged 16 years or over in 2012.
He is also accused of raping a woman 16 years of age or over between 2004 and 2011.
The case will be heard at Carlisle Crown Court on December 19.
Hales was granted bail, on the condition that he does not have any unsupervised contact with anyone under 16 years old.
