A drink-driver was twice the legal limit when he took a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Damien Evans, 29, took a Citroen Berlingo while over the alcohol limit and drove it on the B5295 at Keekle on October 7.
He had 70mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
Evans, of High Street, Cleator Moor, did not have a licence to drive the vehicle and had no insurance.
The defendant, pleaded guilty to the following offences when he appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday:
- Driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit
- Drive a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence
- Take a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent
- Using a motor vehicle on a road / public place without third party insurance
Magistrates banned Evans from driving for 20 months. He was given a two-year community order with 19 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
He must also complete an alcohol abstinence and monitoring programme and must abstain from drinking alcohol for 80 days.
The defendant must also pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
