This week St Benedict's U14s came out successful in their game against Whitehaven Sharks.
This was their opening fixture on Sunday, October 2, on Newlands Avenue.
St Benedicts came away with a 27-12 victory over the Sharks, the game was described as a tough opener in the county cup in Whitehaven's first match since their game against Keswick the week prior.
Carl Walmsley, a Whitehaven Town Councillor, said: "Right from the kick off it was the Mirehouse outfit that passed the ball along the line beautifully with Kaleb Crosby diving in the corner on his debut unconverted.
"St Benedicts 5 Sharks 0 that seemed to shock the sharks and St Benedicts built in confidence as the game went on dominated in attack pressuring and forcing errors leading to two more trys out wide from captain Tyce Walmsley and Ryan Wood respectively both unconverted closely followed by another fantastic individual piece of brilliance out wide for Kaleb Crosby claiming his debut brace St Benedicts 20 sharks 0 going into the half time break.

"Second half whistle blows and the half time talk clearly worked for the sharks as a bit of dominating in the rucks by the Whitehaven outfit from the very first whistle left the home team pinned in the corner which led to Sharks number 22 going over in the corner Benedicts 20 Sharks 5 hopes of a come back were dashed though.
"When Tyce broke through and galloped over the line for his brace converted by Reece Williamson 27- Sharks 5 the game was marred by a nasty knee injury to St Benedict's Ryan Wood who was stretched off to a standing ovation from both sets of fans we all wish the kid a speedy recovery.
"With minutes to go big number 8 for sharks broke through for a consolation try under the sticks that was calmly slotted over leaving the full time score St Benedicts 27 Whitehaven Sharks 12 amazing result for the St Benedicts team peppered with last seasons under 12s playing up a year they all done themselves, parents and the club real proud.
