This past weekend Whitehaven RL triumphed in their match against Bradford Bulls.

The club have secured a much needed win, gaining another two points, as the season nears its final matches.

The players, fans and all of those involved with the club were delighted to see a positive result after what has been a difficult season for Whitehaven.

Head Coach Jonty Gorley said: "It was a much needed win and I thought defensively we were very good.

"We had to be because we were under 50% completion which puts us under pressure and gives us a lot of defence to do. This wasn't ideal and there were plenty of errors but we managed to back it up defensively.

"It's good to see us getting a win with our last one being against Workington Town a few weeks ago. I think in our other recent games against Sheffield and Widnes we were in with a chance had we been smarter we'd have won them games.

"Our discipline and skill level on Sunday was poor and that let us down, but our defence was good. But it's been the story of the season, our previous two games we'd have won if our skill level had been better and we'd been more disciplined.

"I said to the lads that I wanted eight points to finish the season and we've succeeded in the first with a win in what was a tough away game against Bradford."

Jonty explained that the team are now looking ahead to what will be a tough game this Sunday against London Broncos on the bank holiday weekend.

After this there will be two more games left for Whitehaven before the season comes to an end.

On Sunday, September 4, they will face off against Workington Town away in a local derby. In their final match they will be playing Newcastle Thunder at home.
