St Mary's Church in Cleator is continuing its 150th Anniversary celebrations this week.
On Thursday, June 23, there will be a special mass to celebrate the church's opening.
On Saturday, June 25, there will be a concert by world renowned opera singer and Cleator Moor born Joan Rodgers and The Whitehaven Male Voice Choir.
Sean Close, a volunteer at St Mary's, said: "The church which is a Pugin designed church in the Gothic Revival style, took three years to build at a cost of £6,000, which in 1872 was a not insubstantial sum of money.
"It was raised mainly by the Catholic congregation who at the time were poorly paid miners. We the present generation and future generations of parishoners owe it to them to look after the church and cherish it as they did. This is why we are celebrating this anniversary.
"We conclude the celebrations on November 2, All Soul's day with a Mass and a candle light Labyrinth by the artist and fellow of Cleator Moor Gareth Price, in the Grotto grounds of our Church.
"It will be on a grand scale and we plan to process through the Labyrinth and offer our prayers for our deceased relatives."
