THE LATEST meeting of the council’s nuclear board will discuss a number of important issues in Copeland including the development of a landmark business cluster.
Copeland Borough Council’s strategic nuclear energy board is set to meet at the Civic Centre at 2pm on June 7.
The board will receive updates on a number of issues effecting the nuclear industry including the Sellafield nuclear decommissioning site and a consultation launched by Government on radioactive waste.
A verbal update will be given on the council’s involvement in the siting of a Geological Disposal Facility.

Copeland Council is part of a community partnership tasked with discussing the idea of a GDF with the public in two areas under consideration: Mid Copeland – Gosforth, Seascale and Beckermet and South Copeland – Millom, Black Combe and Scafell.
Verbal updates will also be given on the Industrial Solutions Hub, a project designed to make the most of the nuclear decommissioning and clean energy skills in Copeland to prepare for operations winding down at Sellafield.
One aspect of the project is the redevelopment of Leconfield Industrial Estate into the Cleator Moor Innovation Quarter.
Nuclear and commercial services portfolio holder David Moore is also expected to give a verbal update on the future of the industry.
