A group of volunteer actors from west Cumbria are putting on their first play in a number of years this month. 

Rosehill Players will be putting on their performance of Fur Coat and No Knickers at Rosehill Theatre from May 25 until May 28. 

The play was written by Mike Harding and transports the audience back to northern England in the 1970s. It is all set around the wedding of the characters Deidre and Mark and begins on Mark's stag night.

The play is described as: "All from an era when political correctness hadn't been thought of."

Director Jude Henderson said: "Although the keen wit of the script is funny on its own, bringing it to life is a challenging task and one which this talented cast are approaching with energy and enthusiasm."

We spoke to cast member David Tierney to hear his thoughts on the play. Mr Tierney said: "We dedicate our free time to entertaining the people of west Cumbria but like most other things we've been greatly affected by Covid and haven't been able to perform for a number of years. 

"As we're volunteers we don't have any funding so we put this all together ourselves. But we want to put on a show again for everyone to enjoy and hopefully people will come along."

All of the performers are amateurs and local to Whitehaven and the surrounding areas. 

A number of those in the cast have been recognised for their talent and have won NODA Awards. Which is an award for those who excel in the amateur theatre scene. 

The play will be showing over four nights at 7:30pm. Tickets for the event are £10 with those under 26 years old getting a concession of £6. 

On the opening night however the group are welcoming people in for free, but they are welcome to make a donation to the Rosehill Players should they wish too.
