A West Cumbrian secondary school is giving locals a taste of what life is like at the school, but with an icy twist.
St Bees School has teamed up with Ravenglass Ice Cream Company to create a very special flavor of homemade ice cream to represent the school’s 'Where West Meets East' fusion philosophy.
On Tuesday afternoon, students from the School Council were invited to a very special tasting session where ice cream experts Andrew and Sam presented them with four unique flavours that they had developed with the ‘fusion’ concept in mind.
Ceara Fisher, Head of Marketing and Admissions for St Bees School, organised the collaboration with Ravenglass Ice Cream Company, also enjoyed the tasting session, she said: "What a fantastic way to partner with a local company, than creating something new and innovative.
"Very much pioneered by our students’ suggestions, we are confident that the team at Ravenglass Ice Cream Company will create a true taste sensation that will ultimately, take the world by storm."
As the school has three sister schools in China, all of the flavours included a link to Chinese cuisine. With guidance from the students, who were asked to provide inspiration, the flavours aren’t ones that you would see in a typical ice cream shop; red bean paste and Biscoff cookie, hoisin and strawberry, black sesame and honey and Chinese five spiced caramel.
The School Council students Skylah, Summer, Amelia, Alyssa, Rares, Bulat and Aleksandar were given a taster tub of each ice cream to taste and were asked to give their feedback.
In true St Bees style, they debated and critically analysed each flavour, giving their opinions as to which were their favourites, which could be improved, and which they definitely weren’t fans of.
Skylah, a Year 7 student, said: "I love ice cream The flavours aren’t something that I would normally choose, but the red bean and biscoff cookie and the sesame and honey were my two favourites."
The ice cream flavours will be undergoing a few minor changes after the feedback from the students and then, following a final taste test, the winning flavour will be available for the public to buy across all of the Ravenglass Ice Cream Company outlets, including their own outlet in Ravenglass, as well as at Muncaster Castle.
