THE Whitehaven News readers have responded to decisions to cut train tickets by up to half.
These new price changes are being implented to encourage more people to travel by train.
Our readership have shared their views on whether or not this would affect their decision to use trains.
Here's what you had to say.
Shelagh Fox said: "Fed up with massive price differences travelling with different companies on the same track, also having to get several tickets instead of through tickets because of the big price difference."
Jill Hudson said: "Yes, it's a great start, but reliability is even more important. As for the long journey to Carlisle, I love it. It's so beautiful."
Paul H Pluckrose said: "No, I got a Railcard before first lockdown, asked if they were going to be extended and got a definite no. Total waste of money."
John Willan said: "A cheaper train from Whitehaven to Carlisle that still takes an hour and 10 minuntes to get there. No chance."
Kerry Smith said: "Yes. The ticket office in Whitehaven are always helpful and they try to get the best price for you."
Lindsay Chambers said: "Cheaper trains in general would encourage me to use trains, but only Carlisle onwards. The Whitehaven to Carlisle journey is horrendous and takes much longer than in the car."
Maurice Gaythwaite said: "No because they will return to normal prices."
John Cass said: "I'm more worried by cancelled or significantly delayed trains."
Christine Irving said: "A reliable service would be more of an encouragement."
Timothy Jones said: "I went on the LNER website this morning and tried to book a trip from Newcastle to Huddersfield in early May. However much I fiddled around with departure times and trains, no 50% discount ever came up so I abandoned the attempt."
Beverley Wallace said: "Even at half price from Gloucestershire I can fly 2000 miles to Crete at half the price of a train ticket to go visit family in Whitehaven."
