Our business in the spotlight this week is a fish and chip shop who's fry-master is motivated by family and the Copeland community.
Muneer Alwan took over Egremont's chippy on Coleridge Drive in 2018, aptly re-branding the business under his son's name - Noah's Plaice.
"It's hard work but the best part about having your own business, it pays off.
"You feel proud of yourself and it gives you the urge to keep coming, I think I enjoy it more now, but you do have to give it your all.
"What I do now, I do it for my family and the community.
"I worked in a chip shop previously to the owning the business and also as a chef in an Italian restaurant, so I had experience before starting my own business in the industry, so that really helped a lot when starting out," he said.
The difference for Muneer however now is that owning his own business allows for him to be more creative when it comes to his menu that caters for the whole family - leading to the creation of his highly sought after Salt and pepper chip pizza.
"It's a really good seller and if people like it, we'll keep on doing it," he said.
Covid, like most businesses, forced Muneer to adapt to the new way of living, but he said was incredible grateful to both 'loyal and new customers' who kept his business growing throughout the pandemic.
The business, which also sells handmade pizzas, prides itself on not only selling crispy and flaky goods retail but also catering to private parties and events.
"We're not as expensive as say maybe other private caterers would be, especially now with prices going up, we remain a reasonable priced option for catering for family parties and events.
"The locals are quite happy for us as well to keep going because it saves them having to travel elsewhere for a family takeaway.
"I've been here for four years now and I'm quite happy with it and satisfied with the work I'm doing, but we are planning to expand with another chippy in another town but we'll see what happens in the next two or three years," he said.
