AN amateur football team that supports overweight men in Whitehaven will be taking part in a charity fundraising match.
Tubby FC, created by Mirehouse Councillor Carl Walmsley, will be hosting a match against Supporting Charities FC.
Supporting Charities FC has some big names on their team including stars from the TV soaps Hollyoaks and Emmerdale and also some former footballers.
Tubby FC coach Kevin Young explained more about what the match will involve.
Mr Young said: "We've done a couple of charity games before and one of the people involved with our team, Ian Fleming, had been contacted by another football club that whose players have autism.
"This team happened to mention that they were playing Supporting Charities FC and after finding out more about them Ian decided to contact them.
"He managed to get a reply this weekend and the club were happy to help out.
"Since then it's kind of snowballed and we've arranged to play them on Sunday, September 11 2022 in Whitehaven."
Kevin explained that the venue and further details of the game are yet to be announced but explained that this will be a major game for Tubby FC.
After consideration the club have decided to dedicate the fundraising efforts to BeeUnique. A charity that helps to support young people and their families who suffer from autism.
BeeUnique is a rather well known charity around the Copeland area with a number of fundraisers in Whitehaven donating to the cause.
In the past the club have supported other charities, notably one that helped those suffering from multiple sclerosis.
All the players for Tubby FC are men who are struggling with their weight and who are wanting help to lose weight. The club also offers their players support with their mental health.
The team are part of the Cumbrian league but they do not play competitively and mostly just compete in friendly matches.
