The Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners have explained that the weather conditions and storms this week have caused some disruption to development works.
The west coast of Cumbria has been battered by a number of storms this past week which has hindered work on the lighthouse development project.
We spoke to Keith Shackley, the Harbour Operations Manager, to hear about how the work has been going.
Mr Shackley said: "A few weeks ago we had some damage to the scaffolding and enviro wrap on the north pier lighthouse. This mean that we had to stop work until we got the scaffolding repaired and enviro wrap back on which we did. The weather since then has delayed progress but we have now made the repairs, we are just waiting on a window in the weather to recommence the work on this lighthouse.
"The majority of the work on the west pier lighthouse has been completed, however due to the weather over the past week significant damage has been caused to the enviro wrap. The jobs we have left to do are putting the window glazing in and adding another coat of paint, which we hope to get on with soon in the next few weeks.
"Thankfully we have managed to get through the storms relatively unscathed and any significant work will likely commence after the weekend as the weather continues to be difficult."
Fortunately other work on the harbourside has been able to continue. Notably, the work being done on The Edge outdoor activity centre has continued as it is happening at ground level. The workers are still carrying out excavation work and are currently laying utilities. The workers have been reduced slightly but the weather has not had any key affect on this area of the harbourside development work.
Updates on the work being conducted around the harbour will be posted on social media sites.
