A popular historic landmark in West Cumbria has received a large sum of funding from Historic England.
Muncaster Castle, along with many other sites across the country, has received money to help maintain and improve their area.
They have received nearly £200,000 as part of the £35 million Cultural Recovery Fund.
Iona Frost-Pennington, manager at Muncaster Castle said: "The money will be used to re line the front of the castle with lime mortar.
"This will help to preserve the inside of the Castle and provide a better environment for historic photos."
Funding will help bring heritage sites back to life by paying for vital repairs and major building programmes.
This is being done in an attempt to bolster local economies and support jobs across the country.
Muncaster Castle will see major benefits from this grant in order for them to conduct vital repairs and major building programmes.
It comes as part of the government's £2 billion Cultural Recovery Fund that it is hoped will help with the national levelling up agenda.
It is hoped that it will help to benefit the people of West Cumbria by opening up heritage sites.
Our area has been hit hard by the pandemic so it should a real boost for a popular site to get such a large sum of funding.
Historic England hope that it will provide education, development opportunities and jobs to people in the area.
Over the pandemic researchers have discovered that Muncaster Castle and other similar sites have a positive impact on mental health.
As the area is surrounded by gardens, waterways and beautiful natural landscapes.
Trudy Harrison, MP for Copeland added: "I am delighted that Muncaster Castle will receive further funding from the Culture Recovery Fund, via Historic England and the Heritage Stimulus Fund, and follows grants in the first two rounds of £479,200 and £178,000 in October 2020 and April 2021 respectively.
"Muncaster Castle is a much-loved part of our cultural offering here in Copeland, and this further funding reflects the Government’s commitment to the sector and recognises how important such venues are to our communities and visitors."
Carlisle Castle and St John The Evangelist Church in Workington have also received funding of £600,000 and over £160,000 respectively.
