A local MP has voiced her views and what should be done to protect red squirrels living in our area.
Conservative MP for Copeland Trudy Harrison has done her bit to raise awareness of what can be done to help the animals during Red Squirrel Awareness Week.
Red squirrels have been having difficulty for some time which is why authorities are trying to help out the species.
Mrs Harrison said: "This week is #RedSquirrelAwarenessWeek and I'd like to thank all the organisations working so hard in conservation and habitat management to help red squirrels thrive in our area.
"I have always been a keen advocate for wildlife, and with the support of some dedicated local campaigners, I secured a Westminster Hall debate on the plight of the red squirrel back in 2019."
Because these animals are at risk of extinction Mrs Harrison has been trying to raise concern on the issue and has brought it to light in her political career.
She has once again brought it to the attention of the public through social media due to the species being in the eye of wildlife enthusiasts.
She has previously explained that Cumbrian wildlife is important to the area being a source of inspiration and bringing tourists to the area.
