Readers have shared their thoughts after concerns were raised following the capsizing of a fishing vessel in Whitehaven.
People had been concerned that it may be fuel leaking from the vessel that capsized on Thursday September 2, but authorities say that this is not the case.
It is still unknown what the material might be.
John Baker, from the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, said: “It’s not spilling oil, but an unknown substance is coming from the vessel.
“We have divers handling the situation and once we have notice from them we will begin a salvage operation with a crane.
“We are regularly cleaning the material and we have a proactive plan in place.”
Here's what readers had to say.
Daniel Williams said: "[I] couldn't make out what I was looking at. [You] don't see capsized boats in the harbour that often."
Alison Scott said "It stinks".
Lee Sice said: "It's been like this since Wednesday/Thursday last week [and it] should have been cleaned up straight away. All the boat owners want to be checking [their] property."
The Environmental Agency said they were "informed about an abandoned and sunken fishing vessel" and "informed a number of partner organisations to co-ordinate its removal."
