WHITEHAVEN Theatre Group has a new musical coming to the stage next month.
The amateur theatre group is performing Kinky Boots at Solway Hall from Tuesday, September 7 to Saturday, September 11.
Kinky Boots follows Charlie Price, a young man from Northampton, England who inherits a struggling family shoemaking business following the death of his father.
In his attempts to save the shoe factory, he discovers an unlikely hero in a drag queen named Lola.
This results in an engaging, big-hearted spectacle full of dancing, singing and laughs.
Shaun Donald, the director, said: "I guarantee this is something you will not want to miss. To my knowledge nothing even remotely like this has been seen in Whitehaven before and the musical really does have something for everyone, great songs, a great storyline, and some brilliant side-splitting humour."
It was initially meant to take to the stage in April, but was postponed due to coronavirus restrictions.
Auditions were held in December 2020. Production meetings rehearsal and committee meetings were held virtually.
In April they were able to return for in-person rehearsals, maintaining social distancing rules. Some rehearsals took place in a car park.
Shaun Donald said: "It has not been easy under the circumstances, we have rehearsed weekly and now have our sights set on delivering an absolutely sensational production.
"The price of the show tickets have been kept as low as possible as we understand coming out of this pandemic will not be financially easy for everyone, and we sincerely hope that the public get behind us and purchase tickets.
"2020 would have been Whitehaven Theatre Group’s 50th Anniversary, and we were set to celebrate.
"Covid had other ideas, and here we are in 2021 having not had the opportunity to celebrate.
"We would love to see packed houses every night in celebration of what has been a brilliant 51 years."
Kinky Boots performs at Solway Theatre, Whitehaven at 7pm between September 7-11.
Tickets cost £12 for Adults, £10 for Concessions, and £10 for Opening Night and are available by phoning 07588051942 or visiting www.whitehaventheatregroup.com.
