An ICONIC building which became an eyesore was demolished nine years ago.
The Whitehaven Bus Station was a focal part of the town.
Now it has been transformed from Bus to Buzz Station — a new building hosting a beautiful restaurant/cafe, offices and a place to do and develop business.
When it closed to buses, it became derelict and gave a shabby first impression to visitors. In its time, though, it was not only a place where people arrived or left from, but also a place that people walked, drove or rode past on a regular basis.
It was also, as one of these photos show, a place the 1952/53 carnival passed by. Do you recognise anyone?
Another interesting picture is the man in his bus uniform. It was sent in to us in 2009 by Margaret Phillip, but with nothing about the man himself.
The demolition was not so long ago that people will not remember it.
Was there a crowd watching? What was the feeling of the people of the town and area? Did they fight to keep their bus?
