The coast in book, poem or environment, has inspired a new art exhibition.
Fabricate, a small West Cumbrian textile group, has an annual display at the Florence Arts centre every year.
This year the exhibition title is Coastal Yarns, reflecting not only the proximity to the coast that many of the artists enjoy, but also the many poems and prose written about the sea and its environs.
This will be a particularly special exhibition.
Ruth Moore, one of the exhibitors explained: "Our exhibition was postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic.
"This allowed us all more time to spend creating pieces.
"We all find crafting and making has a positive impact on our well being. It has certainly helped in recent times to concentrate on a mindful activity.
"We have a colourful and inspiring textile exhibition that includes felting, rag rugging, machine embroidery and fabric printing. "
There are items on display which range from framed artwork to cards and plenty of gifts to be bought.
The Florence Art Centre in Egremont is a hub for creative and performing arts in West Cumbria: art, live music, comedy, film, theatre.
Set between the Lake District and the Irish Sea, with the stunning backdrop of the historic Florence Iron Ore Mine and Dent Fell, it is an inspiring place to visit in its own right.
Florence Arts Centre commissions artists to work with us each year and with support from Arts Council England, we curate a programme of exhibitions in the gallery.
The group believes art in all forms enables people to share a piece of themselves to the world.
They say art opens conversations, and allows us to apply creative thought to all walks of life and is a practice not confined to a studio or gallery, but a frame of mind which can enhance many situations, jobs and experiences. Exploring our creativity helps us to relax, improves our confidence and, most importantly our mental wellbeing.
The Coastal Yarns exhibition opened last Saturday and runs until September 4.
It will be open on Wednesday to Sunday each week from 11am to 4pm.
Entry is free. There is free parking, coffee shop, disabled access, and is dog friendly.e
