A ROAD in the centre of Workington is set to reopen this week.
A notice had been served by Cumbria County Council to prohibit vehicles from a section of Northumberland Street, from its junction with Ashton Street, extending in a south easterly direction for a total distance of about 53 metres.
A suitable alternative route for vehicles had been made available via Ashton Street, Chilton Street and St Michaels Road.
This was due to the likelihood of danger to the public, as a result of gas escape,
Officially, the notice will be in force for a period of up to 21 days from June 17, as and when the relevant signs are displayed. However, it was anticipated the restriction would only be required for eight days and the restrictions would be in a position for lifting today.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists was maintained at all times.
Exemptions for vehicles do apply and can be made known upon request.
