EX-WORKINGTON Reds striker Martin Harris has been appointed boss of Northern League outfit Whitehaven Amateurs.
Harris, who spent four seasons at Borough Park in Workington’s Football League days in the mid-70s, is returning to the County Ground for a second stint, after first managing Amateurs in the late 90s.
He replaces John George, who has stepped down for family reasons, after leading Amateurs to a respectable 11th place finish in their inaugural Northern League campaign.
“Martin has a very good background and he’ll put in 100 per cent, which is what we need,” said chairman Shaun Hocking.
“We exceeded the points target we set ourselves this year and are more or less on track.
“We finished just outside the top 10 and we’re hoping Martin can better that, and put us in good stead for going up.
“If not next year, the year after. It’s not impossible. We’ve shown we can compete.”
Harris, who also featured for Grimsby Town and Scarborough during his playing career, had a couple of stints in charge at Cleator Moor Celtic.
