I have only just heard from an old school friend that Alan John Francis died on 9th December 2021. I hope his family might see my comment. I went the the Sladen C of E School in Kidderminster with Alan from 1953 to 1958 when he went on to the Grammar School and I went to college. I haven't seen or heard from him since, but I will never forget him. He and his friend Charles Payton, were the nicest young lads I have ever known. I suffered with chronic psoriasis in those days and had been bullied in my Junior School. The Head Teacher of Sladen, Mr. Tweddle, explained this to the whole school that I had been bullied in my Junior School so he wanted everyone to be especially kind to me. I entered Sladen as a very nervous young girl. Over my five years there Alan and his friend Charles were always SO kind to me, even going the extra mile to ensure I was treated with respect. They will never know how much they did toboost my confidence during those years. I have too many little stories of their kindness to record here, but I still thank God for the kindness they showed to me. I have two school photos of them - one is when our whole class visited the Houses of Parliament and were shown round by Sir Gerald Nabarro, and the other is a long photo of the whole school in our final year when we were all prefects. Some people make a lasting impression on us and contribute to making our lives so much better, and Alan was certainly among those people for me. May God bless you all as you treasure your own memories of your wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
