Whitehaven Coastguard has been called to the scene of a deceased whale that has washed ashore at Braystones.
Estimated 3.5 metres in length and believed to be a 'juvenile minke or fin whale', the coastguard was called to the shores on August 26.
A record of its measurements and details was relayed to the Belfast Coastguard Coordination Centre and the Strandings team at the Natural History Museum, as part of the UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme.
Local authorities will handle disposal if tidal movements or if 'nature doesn't run its course first'.
