A WALKER was taken by ambulance crews by stretcher following a 'medical episode' while walking down England's highest mountain.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called out to Wasdale head on Wednesday, April 17 to assist a walker who had suffered a medical episode while descending Scafell Pike.
In a statement, Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: "A call was received on Wednesday afternoon about a walker who was suffering from a medical issue, close to Wasdale Head on the descent from Scafell Pike.
"A very quick response was possible as there was a vehicle with team members already in the valley, with others responding to the full callout.
"Once on scene a medical assessment was made, before packaging into a stretcher. The short journey was made to the road where a handover to a land ambulance was completed, and the team returned to base.
"We hope the walker recovers well, and hope to see him back on the fells soon."
