AS we head into the 2023 ‘spooky season’ there are so many places for Halloween fun in Cumbria.
The county hosts a whole range of Halloween fun for all ages throughout the month from spooky festivals to days full of pumpkin fun.
The trend of pumpkin picking has greatly increased over the years with Cumbria being home to several pumpkin patches.
Here are some of our top picks, if you are looking for somewhere to go and celebrate the spooky season this October.
WALBY FARM PARK – CUMBRIA
With sessions running from September 30 until October 31 Walby Farm Park are hosting a whole month of pumpkin picking fun for all the family.
The attraction says that farmer Neil has spent a whole year ‘growing a spectacular selection of pumpkins’ for visitors to pick at the farm.
The site has grown a huge crop with many different varieties from ‘big orange ones for carving to tiny white ones to decorate your home’.

SCARECASTER- MUNCASTER CASTLE, MUNCASTER
Recommended for people 18 and above, Muncaster Castle have returned this year with an even scarier festival.
Fancy dress is encouraged as you enter a super scary maze where The Seven Deadly Screams await you.
Guests are also encouraged to test their fearlessness as they enter an immersive poltergeist experience.

RED SHEPERDESS PUMPKIN PATCH - LANGWATHBY
With pumpkins aplenty, Hannah Jackson, who is better known as Red Shepherdess, revealed the new patch will be in Langwathby, opposite the Great North Air Ambulance Service base.
The Sunday Times Best Seller announced the pumpkin picking dates as October 14, 15, and then from the 21st onwards, open from 10am to 3pm.
To enhance the pumpkin-picking adventure, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cold drinks, sweets and snacks are available.

HALLOWEEN FAMILY FESTIVAL- MUNCASTER CASTLE, MUNCASTER
A much-loved feature of any Cumbrian Halloween, the Muncaster Castle festival returns from October, 21 to 29 for a whole host of family fun.
This year the festival will be themed around the story of Frankenstein, with the spooky maze, family activities and much more on offer throughout the day.
Guest will be able to enter the castle laboratory and marvel at Dr Frankenstein’s latest creation, with tickets available here.
STEPHNEYS PUMPKIN PATCH- SEASCALE
Stephney Farm in Seascale will host a pumpkin patch for the first time this year after farmers Kate Perna and Ian Knight saw the opportunity to diversify.
Pumpkin sessions will run on weekends in October and throughout the half term week (October 7-8, 14-15, 21-29) There will be two sessions per day 10am-12pm and 1pm - 3pm.
Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes will be available to purchase. As well as pumpkins, there will be a variety of other all-weather activities including an area set aside for toddlers, some crafts and colouring for older children and plenty of props and backdrops to get some Instagram-worthy photos.
