Over the weekend Whitehaven residents enjoyed a fireworks display which brought an end to the Christmas Markets.

On Friday, December 2, crowds gathered on the harbourside to enjoy the fireworks display which is the first that the town has seen in seven years.

Organised by Whitehaven Town Council the display brought to an end the town's traders markets for this year, which have been held regularly in St Nicholas' Gardens.

Whitehaven Town Council have expressed their delight over the success of the event. They said: "We're very pleased it was such a success it was a fantastic spectacle for the town.

Gerard Richardson, a business owner who helped to put the event together, said: "I thought the fireworks were excellent, we used the same company that we used for the Maritime festivals who are now known as UK Fireworks.

"They know the type of fireworks that the town loves and there were lots of big explosions over the harbour.

"You could feel the bangs when you were on the harbour; it was a great atmosphere and lovely to watch I was absolutely delighted.
